"A single word can be a powerful thing. It can be the ripple in the pond that changes everything. It can be sharp and biting or rich and soft and slow."

I got this idea from Ali Edwards' blog. The idea is to choose a word that I will use in 2009 - as Ali wrote last year, "a word that I can focus on, mediate on, and reflect upon as I go about my daily life." With all that will be changing for me in the coming year, I felt I needed a word that could help me be present at all times during my day, week, month, and year. I know I will need to spend time on studying and doing work for my masters, but I also don't want to ignore the time I have with Jesse, my family and my friends. I want to be able to give myself time to be creative and even time to be lazy. I want to live a more healthful life and change the way I see and treat my environment. I decided that the best word for this would be focus. I hope that I can truly focus on what I'm doing, whatever it is. If I'm studying, I don't want to be thinking about painting - I want to focus. When I'm with Jesse, I want to enjoy the time we have and not worry about homework - I want to focus. When I'm being creative I don't want to feel guilty for neglecting 'more important' things - I want to focus. Live in the moment. Be aware. Focus.
Focus.
